It is not known when exactly it was founded, but by 1251 it was under the patronage of the King.
It had a master, six brethren, and several sisters. It was mainly devoted to the care of the poor.
Even after the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1538, the hospital continued to function as an almshouse. Probably due to lack of funds, it became ill maintained and by the 19th it was finally closed.
